ABOUT MYOBRACE®
Myobrace® is a braces-free way to straighten teeth and optimize jaw growth by retraining the muscles of the mouth. Dr. Lena and her team use it in conjunction with myofunctional therapy to:
- Guide the position of the tongue
- Keep the cheeks away from the teeth and bones
- Create better muscle balance in the mouth
Myobrace can be used in children younger than six as part of early intervention treatment to help guide the growth of the jaw. In children six and older, Dr. Lena also uses Myobrace as a transitional appliance between early intervention and phase 1 orthodontic treatment.
Before age six, the jaws are still somewhat malleable, and Myobrace is a great way to help them develop and align properly. The removable appliance is worn for about two hours each day, then at night while sleeping.
In addition to supporting proper jaw growth in young children and straightening teeth, Myobrace can also optimize facial development, help children learn to breathe through their nose, correct the resting position of the tongue, improve swallowing, and train the muscles of the mouth to allow the lips to stay together.
Myobrace typically has four treatment stages: habit correction, arch development, dental alignment, and retention. In some cases, completing this course of treatment can eliminate or reduce the need for braces or fixed retainers later in life.
